The Pande group at Stanford University has developed a new and improved method of simulating the folding process. Unfortunately, for the larger proteins implicated in diseases such as Alzheimers, cystic fibrosis and CJD, this is extremely computationally demanding. So, akin to the popular SETI@home project, Folding@home asks anyone on the internet to 'lend' them some processing power by downloading and running an dedicated screensaver. See Folding@home for more information.
